1. Craft Beer Works Kamikaze
A small and cosy bar offering some American favourites but mainly Japanese brews across their 23 taps. Many of the beers you’ll be hard pressed finding in many other places, making it a popular joint with Osaka’s beer connoisseurs. The food is also excellent, looking like it should be getting served up in a Michelin star restaurant no less. Craft Beer Works Kamikaze is one of the few bars in the area open until late so pop in for a late-night beer and a snack.

2. The Blarney Stone Irish Pub
This quaint pub in Kita offers free live music every Thursday to Sunday, typical pub food and a mix of British and Japanese beers. There are pool tables, televisions screening international sports games and it is very gaijin (foreigner) friendly.

3. Covent Garden
A few minutes from Triangle Park, this friendly neighbourhood pub doesn’t feel like any regular bar, it has an unmistakable home away from home feel. It opens twice a day for set hours on weekdays, offers live music on weekends, boasts free WiFi, foosball and darts, plus, the bar serves up a wide variety of imported beers. A popular place with locals and foreigners alike, CinqueCento – “500” in Italian – sells all drinks for just 500 yen a pop. The bar is shaped like a horseshoe, making it a great space to socialise and meet new people. English isn’t a problem here as the owner, Anthony, is an Australian expat himself.

5. Fiji Bar Osaka
Yogi, the Fijian owner if this little place, brings a welcome slice of his native land to Osaka with Fiji Bar Osaka. The Fijian food and drinks are a nice change of pace, plus, the rugby-mad regulars and giant tv screens make it a great place to watch a game. There’s also a great terrace to spill out onto where you’ll be treated to some awesome tunes.

6. Comodo Bar with Jazz
The best spot in town for an evening of jazz. This quaint jazz bar offers a small selection of delicious food and all the usual drinks options, though it is the music people really come for. If you plan to head to Comodo on a weekend make sure you book seats in advance, the bar is very popular and space is tight.

7. Hana Sake Bar
This is the place to be if you’re looking to ditch the beers and try out something a little more local in flavour. Hana Sake Bar, unsurprisingly, specialises in everyone’s favourite Japanese liquor, sake. Grab one of the special tasting sets consisting of three different sake types and you’ll soon be an expert. 8. Balabushka Pool & Darts Bar
One of the oldest pool and darts bars in Osaka, Balabushka has an interesting industrial feel to it, with an interior heavy on metal and a scaffolded raised level. The cheap beer on tap and free pool and darts has proven a winning combo with locals and tourists alike, many of who use it as a bar to warm up in before heading to one of Dotonbori’s clubs.

Hidden on the fifth floor of a corner building near Triangle Park, Bar Nayuta is a unique bar that’s worth seeking out. It has an apothecary-theme, a speakeasy-like vibe and seats just 20 people, all adding up to a place like no other. Customers rave about the cocktails, though if nothing off the menu takes your fancy, Hiro, the barman, will be happy to throw something together for you.
